2. Number of Admitted Students
 

A limited number of students are offered admissions to each academic department or program.

3. Qualification
 

1) Applicants must demonstrate a certain level of Korean and meet one of the following two conditions:
  (1) A foreign national whose parents are both foreign nationals
  (2) Completion of at least 16 years of education (equivalent to all of elementary, middle, high school and undergraduate) in a foreign country
2) Applicants must meet one of the two conditions of their desired degree program requirement:

(1)¡¡A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (or expected to receive a bachelor's degree before the admissions period of the term the applicant is applying to).
  (2) Educational attainment equivalent to bachelor's degree approved by laws.

  (1) A master's degree from an accredited college or university (or expected to receive a master's degree before the admissions period of the term the applicant is applying to).
  (2) Educational attainment equivalent to master's degree approved by laws.

4. Admissions Procedure
 

Admission decisions are made based on a comprehensive review of the application materials submitted (excluding the Department of Music). However, some departments may require an interview for some or all applicants.
1) Review of the application materials
    (a) Academic record                 (b) Study plan

2) Departmental interviews
    (a) Please contact the individual department after the submission of an application.
    (b) The Department of Music will examine candidates by conducting a performance assessment equivalent to an interview.
¡Ø The final admission decisions for the Department of Music are made through a review of application materials and results of the assessment performance. For the details of an assessment performance, please contact the Department of Music.
¡Ø The Department of Political Sciences: Applicants subject to interview are required to take an written examination on a translation of English to Korean (one hour) before the interview.

5. Application Schedule and Fees

        - Applicants for the Department of Music must pay an additional KRW 52,000 for the performance assessment.  
    (c) Mailing of printed application form and other required documents (including those additionally required by department)
    (d) The entire procedure of application for Yonsei Graduate School Fall 2012 has been outsourced to an internet application company. The Graduate School of Yonsei University do not use personal information(name, social security number, contact, academic record, etc) for any other

purposes besides application procedure. However, we do require a consent of applicant for the use of personal information in the case of being admitted to the Graduate School.

  4) Additional Requirements for Scholarship
     Scholarship applicants must submit the following three documents (for scholarship guidelines, refer to Section 10):

     (3) Recommendation letter by the president of a university that has signed the MOU agreement with Yonsei University (Applicants for Global Leader Fellowship only)

7. Important Reminders
 

1) All required documents must be originals. Documents in non-Korean or non-English languages must be accompanied with certified English translations.
2) Application fees are non-refundable and all application documents will not be returned.
3) Applicants can only apply to one department (applying to two or more departments is not allowed).
4) If any required documents are found to be false or counterfeit, admission to Yonsei University will be revoked.
5) Students with a D-2 visa who wish to stay in Korea for more than 90 days must visit a local immigration office or branch office and apply for an alien registration card within 90 days of entry into Korea.
6) Applicants will be excluded from the admissions evaluation process if any required documents are not submitted within the application period,
7) The applicant's English name and date of birth must match the information on his/her passport.
8) Urgent notices are sent out through text messages and e-mails. Applicants should include their parent¡¯s or guardian¡¯s cell phone number and e-mail address.
9) New students cannot take a leave of absence in their first semester. (Allowed only in the case of military service or illness (proved by a medical certificate))

10. Scholarship Guidelines
 

- Applicants can apply for the following scholarship in the scholarship section of the online application.
- Scholarship application is not available after entering the school. It is only available at the time of applying for admission.
- Definition of regular semesters: 1st to 4th semesters for master's and Ph.D degree programs; 1st to 6th semesters for joint degree programs.
1) Seoul Campus
  (1) Global Leader Fellowship(¡ØNot available for applicants to medical science majors)
      - Number of grantees: 15 students (maximum) per year
      - Qualification: Applicants must satisfy the following two conditions:
      (1.1) One out of the following three must be fulfilled:
        a. Applicant who has a letter of recommendation by the president of a university that has signed the MOU agreement with Yonsei University (Check the list of universities in "Programs" at http://oia.yonsei.ac.kr)
        b. Applicant with working experience as a professional or high official for at least 3 years

  (1) Outstanding Foreign Student Scholarship for Ph.D. Degree
       - Selection process: Colleges will determine the final grantees from a group of new students who are recommended by academic advisors and the head of department.
      - Number of grantees: Two Ph.D. students (including joint degree program students) per college per semester (number can be adjusted among colleges)

11. Student Visa
 

1) Sojourn status: D-2
2) Where to Apply: Local Korean Embassy or Consulate
¡ØFor citizen of China, Cuba, Iraq, and Afghanistan, the university requests for visa issuance and delivers the approval number to the student.
3) Required Documents:
   a. Certificate of final education
   b. Certificate of Admission
       (1) Admitted students will be notified via personal e-mail and asked to receive the Certificate of Admission via mail, or by visiting the Graduate School office.
       (2) This letter will be issued to admitted students by the Graduate School Office.
       (3) The standard letter of admission will be issued by mail, or visit. (Takes about 1 month)
       (4) For students from China, Cuba, Iraq, and Afghanistan, Recognition of Visa Issuance will be sent. (Takes about 2 months)

12. Departmental Interviews and Performance Assessment
 

Some departments may require an interview or a performance assessment for the Department of Music after a thorough perusal of the required documents submitted. For the Fall 2012 applicants, the scheduled interview and performance assessment will take place on May 26 (Sat), 2012.
